The “Oona Made Me Do It!” Top

Friends. The internet is a dangerous and scary place. One minute you’re innocently setting up a Twitter account, and the next you’re accepting dares from a madwoman! BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL.  #Sewingdares spread like wildfire! Obviously, I’m no sissy, so I immediately agreed to this dare and headed off to Mood with Oona!  She pulled out bolt after bolt and wrapped me in vibrant colors and prints from head to toe. It was a difficult decision, but, like the loose cannon she is, that girl decided at the last minute to up the ante and dare me to use TWO […]

Black-on-Black Pants

Let me introduce you to my newest garment: my black-on-black pants. These pants are the culmination of my efforts in Sandra Betzina’s Pant Fitting Techniques class on Craftsy. The pattern is Vogue V2948, a princess-seamed basic pant pattern that either zips at the side or back. I chose to use a black wool crepe from Mood that is described as “an absolute staple for three-season wear”, which makes it a very worthy fabric for all of the time I put into the class! I’ve spent a decent amount of time these last couple of months going through Sandra’s class. I […]

An Alien Fabric

And here endeth the outdoor shots for this particular post.  IT IS FRIGID OUTSIDE, even for my snow foolery behind.  And although there’s a lovely amount of wool in this Caroline Herrera yardage (similar here), it’s not the sort meant to keep you cozy. Que moody shots!  I had no idea we could get such extraterrestrial light in our bedroom in the middle of the day.  Weird, man.  The alien landscape must have affected me, think I could crack a smile?  Inside I’m positively gleeful, I love this crazy dress tunic top thingamajig! Let me start at the beginning. I […]

Red and Seafoam for Spring

I know it’s only February, but try telling that to my spring fever! GAH can it go ahead and get warm here already!? Since I can’t control the weather (something I’m still waiting patiently for, as well as for my own Hoverboard and Jaws 19), I can at least get a head start on pulling my warm-weather wardrobe together, yeah? Before you accuse me of shamelessly ripping off Lori’s red pants, I’ve actually had these planned for a couple of months. Lori just beat me to the punch, and of course hers look better (which is NOT FAIR). Figures! The […]

Emerald Faux Leather Skirt

Faux leather is off the beaten path in Mood.  It’s on the third floor, way in the back, behind all of the scrumptious designer boucles.  The Saturday that I was in Mood NYC, I was back there all alone!  But the treasures, people, the treasures that are in that section are mind-blowing ~ well at least to a fabric junkie like me!  As I was pulling out bolt after bolt, I stumbled upon this goodness… …and I knew right away what it should be!  It was love at first sight, really it was! So Todd helped me get it to […]

Carolina Herrera Brocade Dress

When I first laid eyes on this brocade at Mood, I thought it was very striking but had no idea what to do with it. I didn’t want an entire dress made from it because that would be too fancy for my lifestyle. While perusing some design magazines on vacation, I ran across a dress with a bunch of folds around the neckline that I wanted to copy, but then couldn’t find the right pattern in my stash. Enter this Simplicity Cynthia Rowley pattern. It had the fitted bodice that I find most flattering on my small bust, and the […]

Striped Blazer

I have been looking at striped blazers for about a month now–just search “stripe knit blazer” on Pinterest and it yields many results.  From the traditional navy-white/cream to red/navy and green/navy color combination, to varying lengths to the treatment of the label/front finishes, the choices are limitless for this stylish blazer. I purchased Navy Stripes Nautical Double-faced Cotton-blend Jersey with the one thought, “I love this fabric!”  After my order came from Mood Fabrics, I noticed my navy ponte (from my first Mood Sewing Network post) matched perfectly.  That is when we fashion sewers just start planning and picturing ideas.  I looked at all the […]

Woeful in Wool Novelty

Do you see that face?  That is the face of a girl who thinks she has the perfect outfit planned for the day, and therefore left a scant thirty minutes to shoot pictures AND get dressed to go out the door to pound the NY audition pavement, and who just saw the view-screen of her Canon in broad daylight and realized SHE WAS ALL KINDS OF WRONG. On this particular Tuesday, I was destined to play a high powered attorney and a CFO. Separately.  Although the first character probably could have played both, she had the stones for it.  I […]
